“ | We’re different to last year, different to last year… | ” |
This is the first season of the new campaign for the Dragon Friends podcast, Heroes of Yearth, and the tenth season of the podcast overall (the numbering not including OK Computer). Edan Lacey and Tom Cardy are the Dungeon Masters for a game set in a new world, “Yearth”, with new player characters: minotaur barbarian Sunbelt Gongbonger (played by Michael Hing), ducklin rogue Polly Waddle (Alex Lee), human “pity wizard” Dinner Munchabout (Demi Lardner), and human ranger (and sometimes bard) Charion Valariant (Simon Greiner).
This first season is also referred to as “Heroes of Yearth”. It restarts the season numbering, differentiating itself from the original Season 1 by adding the prefix DF2 in episode titles. It kicked off with its first episode, ”Welcome to Yearth” (DF2 1.01), on 24 March 2024.
It was followed by a second season, titled “Tyrrany of Dragons”, in 2025.
List of Episodes
The Making of Yearth
A series of prequel video episodes were released as Patreon exclusives. Each is in two parts, with Edan and Tom DMing one of the players solo as their character is recruited for the Solstice Games. These were originally titled "DF2 Session ZERO", but were renamed, presumably because they don’t involve any character creation, player safety discussions or other traditional “session zero” elements. They’re more individual character prologues, though the characters do get levelled up between part one and two.
In order of release (and likely not the order in which they were recorded), these episodes are:
- The Making of Yearth - Alex 1
- The Making of Yearth - Alex 2
- The Making of Yearth - Simon 1 (notable as this is where Edan comes up with the name “Yearth”)
- The Making of Yearth - Simon 2
- The Making of Yearth - Hing 1
- The Making of Yearth - Hing 2
- The Making of Yearth - Demi 1
- The Making of Yearth - Demi 2
